Jerry Hoffman of The Blacksmith?s Journal fame, is featured in this video. In it the blacksmith will learn how to make tools including a smithing magician and flat jaw tongs, and decorative elements including rosettes, a snub end scroll, and a folded leaf. The demonstrator effectively uses both illustrations and live demonstration to clarify his points, in much the same way as he lays out instructional articles in the magazine. Hoffman uses articles in past issues of the Journal as reference material for his demonstrations. Hoffman uses a treadle hammer in much of the work shown, and shows lots of unique tooling for a treadle hammer in this video. Owners of treadle hammers will find this tape very useful. The videos in this series are well photographed and edited to make efficient use of the viewers? time.
